I became an educator because… I wanted to ensure all students had equitable educational experiences and that all students felt deeply cared for while at school.

Prior to Equitas, I… was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, West Africa where I taught high school science and feel in love with teaching. After Ghana, I moved to Chicago and taught high school science/ELD in Chicago Public Schools. My last move was to Los Angeles, where I taught Science and ELD in middle schools. I finally moved out of the classroom as an EL Coordinator prior to starting my career at Equitas as the Director of ELD.

I chose Equitas because… I love Equitas' clear focus on serving the Pico Union Community. I was drawn to Pico Union due to the large population of newly arrived immigrants here and the desire to learn from all the many assets of this community.

Outside of school, I enjoy… spending time with my two teenage daughters, hiking and being in nature, reading and cooking.
