I became an educator because… I believe that education has the power to liberate a community and change the future.
Prior to Equitas, I… was a pastor for about a year. After that year, I realized that I wanted to go into education. I went to Fuller Seminary to get a Masters of Divinity (MDiv) with the goal to teach at a collegiate level. However, while at Fuller, I began to study the intersection of Liberation Theology and education. My interest in education, and specifically primary education grew. Toward the end of my Masters program, I knew I wanted to be a elementary teacher and applied to be a Public Speaking Enrichment Teacher at Equitas.
I chose Equitas because… they allowed me to teach my passion of Public Speaking as an elementary Enrichment class. After teaching Public Speaking for 9 years, I then transitioned to be a 1st Grade Homeroom teacher. I stay at Equitas because I love the relationships I have with both my colleagues and our families. It has been a great experience to get to see scholars I taught Public Speaking to years ago now in High School and getting ready for college.
Outside of school, I enjoy… reading comics, hiking and camping with my family, and baking.
