Priscilla Magallanes
Counselor
I became an educator because… saw the transformative impact that school counselors can have on students. As a school counselor, my role extends beyond academic guidance as I am also deeply involved in the social-emotional development of students. This aspect of my work ensures that students not only strive for academic success but also cultivate the emotional resilience and interpersonal skills necessary to navigate life's challenges effectively. Through my role, I am committed to integrating SEL into our school culture to empower students and strengthen the overall community for long-term success.
Prior to Equitas, I… earned a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Chico, and a Master's in School Counseling from the University of Southern California. These academic experiences enriched my understanding of educational theory and practice, particularly in social-emotional learning. Alongside my formal education, I worked extensively with children within private households, crafting individualized educational and developmental activities. This blend of academic and practical experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students across different environments.
I chose Equitas because… t feels like a full circle moment, as I grew up and attended school just a few miles from here. Having the opportunity to give back to the community that shaped me is incredibly fulfilling, and Equitas' mission to provide a transformative educational experience and robust support systems resonates deeply with my own beliefs. I believe in the EQ commitment to fostering educational equity as it aligns perfectly with my passion for school counseling, where I aim to empower every student to reach their fullest potential in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Outside of school, I enjoy… exploring new foodie spots around the city and discovering unique flavors that bring communities together. I love hiking and spending time outdoors, which helps me recharge and connect with nature. Most importantly, I cherish quality time with my family, whether we’re enjoying a meal together, sharing stories, or just relaxing. These activities keep me grounded and allow me to bring my best self to my work with students every day.
